TheJoy of Skating

Thank you for Supporting The Joy of Skating!

$11,580 raised!

We met our $5,000 matching challenge from the Ward Family.

Thank You to Our Donors!

See list below.

As we walk into the ice rink, we hear muted voices, the quiet swish of stroking, a quick toe pick in the ice as skaters jump and land. The jazz song It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing fills the rink.

Though we can't see skaters’ expressions behind their face masks, we can feel and observe the joy in their movements as they run their programs and train with their friends and coaches. This joy is the exhilaration and delight of being on the ice and doing what they truly love.

This year presented great challenges to our figure skating community. Our rink closed down mid-March 2020 when Sun Valley was hit hard and early by COVID-19. Families struggled with the financial impact of the pandemic; some were unsure if they could afford to send their skaters back to the rink. Skaters longed to be together and on the ice, turning to off-ice virtual zoom classes with coaches.

Thankfully, Sun Valley Skating Center reopened with strict COVID protocols at the beginning of June 2020. We wish you could have seen our skaters’ excitement when they stepped on the ice!

Though our members continue to skate, competitions, qualifying events, and national finals were cancelled due to the pandemic. We were forced to call off our Sun Valley Summer Championships, Sun Valley Winter Games, and Learn to Skate group lessons, main funding sources for our club. The annual Club Exhibition and the Sun Valley Company’s Christmas Eve Show, favorite performances for our skaters, were also cancelled in 2020.

In response, our goal is to provide other meaningful opportunities for our skaters to perform, test and prepare until we return to skating as normal.

We're asking for your support today. With your help, we can provide more discounted ice time and other performance opportunities such as exhibitions and critiques for our skaters.

Donations can be made through our website below or mailed to PO Box 351, Sun Valley, ID 83353.

Thank you for giving the Joy of Skating to our members!
