Awards & Recognition

The SVFSC awards program celebrates athletic achievement, sportsmanship, education, volunteerism, and competitive success among skaters, coaches, officials, and parents. 

To be eligible, recipients must:

• Be a Home Club members 

• Participate in the Volunteer Service Hours Program for the relevant membership year (July 1 – June 30).

• Meet all eligibility requirements outlined within each award category

• Submit required materials by the published deadlines
   

COACH-NOMINATED ATHLETE AWARDS

These awards recognize skaters who demonstrate outstanding achievement, growth, dedication and sportsmanship as observed by their coaches.

Herman Maricich Award for Outstanding Achievement

Criteria: Hard work, positive attitude, achievement in testing or competition.

Skating Level: Intermediate–Senior FS / Pre-Silver+ Dance / Intermediate+ Free Dance

 

Daisy Langley Award for Outstanding Achievement

Criteria: Hard work, positive attitude, progress and testing success.

Skating Level: Pre-Preliminary–Juvenile FS / Preliminary–Bronze Dance / Juvenile Free Dance

 

Judianne Fuller Award for Outstanding Sportsmanship

Criteria: Supportive attitude, respect for coaches, peers, and facility.

Skating Level: Intermediate–Senior FS / Pre-Silver+ Dance

 

Lolly Jensen Award for Outstanding Sportsmanship

Criteria: Positive attitude, kindness, team spirit, and respect.

Skating Level: Pre-Preliminary–Juvenile FS / Preliminary–Bronze Dance

 

Nominating Process:

• Coaches holding a SVFSC Professional Membership or Sun Valley Co. coaches contract (Sept–May) may each nominate one skater per award. Coaches with both qualifications may nominate two.
• Nominations must be submitted through the club’s online application form. 

• Coaches must provide at least two specific examples demonstrating how the  nominee meets the award criteria.

• Review of sportsmanship nominations may include feedback from rink management.
• Final recipients are approved by Board vote following review of recommendations from the Grants and Award committee.

•Award Amount: $175.

SVFSC MEMBER-NOMINATED SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD

This peer-nominated award recognizes members who positively contribute to the club community through kindness, respect and encouragement of others.

Eligibility:

• Junior, Parent, and Adult Home Club members may nominate one skater.
• Nominee must be a Home Club member in good standing and participating in the Volunteer Service Hours Program.

 

Criteria:
• Demonstrates hard work, positivity, and respect.

• Respect towards coaches, skaters, staff and facility
• Nomination Deadline: May 15.

• Reviewed by the Grant & Awards Committee.
• Award amount: $175.
 

SVFSC VOLUNTEERISM AWARDS

These awards recognize exceptional service and contributions to the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club community.

Imogen Harris Award for Volunteerism

Criteria: For the skater with most volunteer hours at Sun Valley Summer Championships (est. 2018).
 

Nominating Process

• Nominated by Board Members.

• Final approval by Board vote.
• Award amount: $175

 

EDUCATION & TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS

The Sun Valley Figure Skating Club supports continued learning and professional development opportunities for skaters, coaches and officials through educational scholarships and training assistance.

Skater Training and Development Scholarship

Eligibility: Home Club Skater participating in the Volunteer Service Hours Program. 

Examples of Training Opportunities: USFS Training Camps, ProSkaters, Ice Theatre of NY, Development Camps

Application Process: Submit stated goals and proof of completion.

 

Coach Education & Training

Eligibility:Professional Home Club Member 

PSA Certification, LTS, USFS Camps.

Application Process: Submit plan, goals, receipts, proof, and share learnings with club.

 

Officials Education & Training

Eligibility:Registered or prospective official

Examples: Judges, accountants, referees, announcers.

Application Process: Submit goals, receipts, proof of training and certificate.
 

Scholarship Requirements:

• Applications are reviewed by the Grant and Award Committee and submitted to the Board for approval.
• Scholarship amounts are determined annually based on available budget

•Applicants may be asked to provide receipts, registration confirmation, or proof of completion 

•Skaters applying for training scholarships must have trained in Sun Valley for a minimum of six consecutive months prior to the application.

•Coaches applying must hold a SVFSC professional membership

 

NATIONAL COMPETITION AWARDS

These awards recognize and support athletes who qualify for and compete in qualifying USFS national-level events.

Eligible Events: 

•National Solo Dance Finals

•Excel National Finals

•National Showcase (for individuals - teams may apply for a scholarship)

•Sectionals

•Nationals

•Adult Sectionals

•Adult Nationals
 

Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be a Home Club member in good standing participating in the Volunteer Service Program.
• Successfully qualify for and compete in the event 

• Submit registration confirmation and official results
• Skaters must be training in Sun Valley for a minimum of six consecutive months to be considered for this category.

 

Award Structure:

•First qualifying national level event: $175

•Additional qualifying events within the same season: $80 each

•Placement recognition awarded for Gold, Silver or Bronze medal finishes (budget dependent)
 

ATHLETE ACHIEVEMENT & GRADUATION AWARDS

The Sun Valley Figure Skating Club proudly recognizes major milestones and accomplishments achieved by its skaters.

Recognition Opportunities:

• Skaters qualifying for National Finals may receive financial awards per National Competition Awards guidelines. (see above)
• Skaters passing their first Gold Medal USFS Test receive reimbursement for  a USFS Gold Medalist jacket or vest and embroidery.
• Graduating seniors who have been active members for a minimum of three consecutive years leading up to graduation will receive a USFS collegiate membership or a one year SVFSC full membership upon graduation.

The Grants & Awards Committee oversees the process each year, ensuring fairness and adherence to budget.

Funding & Budget Notes

• Award amounts and quantities are determined annually by the Board based on budget.
• Members may be limited to a maximum annual total award amount.
• Typically one to four awards per category, with multiple recipients possible
